So I guess people have been wanting to hear a little more about me and a typical day here at AIM. So here it goes:

My day generally begins early in the morning before breakfast, sometimes 6:30 or 7:00, just getting ready, sometimes I go with a group of AIM students running. Otherwise I spend in the quiet, just reading some books, journaling or studying the Bible and praying. The morning can look like a lot of different things, so it’s really hard to say. Breakfast is at 8:00, and I must say that they really have made a huge effort here just to please our suffering American appetites. The main course is almost always something familiar, albeit with an African taste: sometimes egss and hotdogs, granola and yogurt, cereal, or a few other random meals. My favorite part is taht the meal will almost always include bread with any number of different toppings, peanut butter, jam, honey, butter, and this really crazy African sauce which is only for the truly brave at heart.

After breakfast, each day changes a little bit, but it’s usually either discipleship as a group, which involves Bible studying and group discussion, and some small group activities. Or the other days we meet in our official “small groups” to discuss more in depth what we’ve been learning and doing in ministry and discipleship. It’s a really great time to just discuss and pray for each other’s days. We have lunch at 12:30, and then we go immediately to our ministry location for the afternoon. My ministry location is called Victory for All, which is part of a local church that supports numerous programs like an afterschool program, an HIV/AIDS testing and counseling center, an orphanage and many more. Right now we are helping out with their afterschool program, which runs during the afternoons after the young kids are done with school. Mostly it’s a place for them to stay safe and off the streets before their parents come home. But they also get some food to eat, and learn some basic English and sing songs together. I’ve also been very impressed with how the teachers are able to show the children discipline and love, teaching them important values like honesty and compassion.

Truly it’s been a blessing to work with Victory 4 All and help the teachers in this ministry. Much of the reason why we are there is to help the teachers, who have a lot of responsibility for these kids. We spend time at the end of each day just praying and sharing with each other how the day went. A lot of ministry is just to encourage and make it a little bit easier for these very busy women. There’s much more I could share with you, but I think I’ll save that for another day…
